Position Overview:


The primary objective of clinical education at Trocaire College is to provide nursing students with diverse practical experiences that enable them to demonstrate and integrate safe professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes while interacting with various patients and healthcare professionals. These educational experiences are conducted under the guidance and mentorship of clinical faculty.

The Clinical Nursing Educator is responsible for instruction primarily in clinical and laboratory environments.

This position necessitates a demonstrated understanding, proficiency, and experience in a specialized area of practice as both a direct care provider and clinical educator.

Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the clinical experiences of 8-10 students to fulfill the curriculum and nursing program objectives.

Foster an inclusive learning environment that accommodates a diverse student body through various teaching methodologies, a curriculum that builds on prior knowledge, and a learning progression that transitions from simple to complex concepts.

Establish effective working relationships and maintain regular communication among instructors, full-time faculty, and students to enhance the clinical learning experience.

Ensure maintenance of credentials, licensure, and certifications necessary for teaching and nursing practice. Stay current with technical advancements and apply evidence-based practices in clinical instruction.

Coordinate clinical patient assignments with facility unit managers/supervisors based on criteria such as course learning objectives, patient needs, availability, and a range of learning opportunities within the clinical setting.

Design engaging activities aligned with course content to promote active learning and student participation.
Provide timely feedback on clinical assignments and paperwork to students. When necessary, implement/manage Clinical Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and offer individual counseling for students not meeting clinical expectations.
Conduct and manage weekly formative evaluations of students promptly. Perform and manage mid-term and final summative evaluations in a timely manner. Monitor, track, and approve student attendance records efficiently.
Ensure student compliance with the policies and procedures of both the clinical facility and Trocaire College. Communicate any concerns or student issues to the Nursing Clinical Education team promptly. Adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to protect the confidentiality of student educational records.
Maintain communication with the Nursing Clinical Education team regarding any concerns or student issues as they arise.

Comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) standards to safeguard individuals' medical records and personal health information.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum BSN Degree
  • Current/unencumbered New York State (NYS) nursing license as a registered nurse
  • Current BLS Certification
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to adapt to change readily
  • Commitment to the Mercy Mission and inclusive excellence

Preferred:

  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience in a clinical teaching role
  • MSN Degree or current enrollment in a graduate nursing program
