The position will focus primarily on co-teaching the Clinical Medicine course series, alongside a Behavioral Medicine course and a Community Health course. Faculty members are also anticipated to provide supportive instruction in additional courses as needed.

This role reports directly to the Director of the Physician Assistant Program.

Key Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities of this position include managing and coordinating various facets of educational programming, such as:

  • Providing a minimum of 6 credit hours of instruction per semester, including lab support and co-teaching responsibilities, which translates to approximately 12 hours of classroom engagement weekly.
  • Offering academic guidance as a faculty advisor to designated PA students.

This position will collaborate closely with all course directors to ensure synchronized instruction with didactic courses and will work alongside the Clinical Education Coordinator to ensure that students acquire the requisite skills for their clinical training phase.

Service Responsibilities:

  • Supporting student research initiatives as necessary.
  • Participating in committee assignments for the program and college.
  • Engaging in community outreach on behalf of the institution and the program.
  • Organizing and participating in community service projects with students.
  • Involvement in the selection process for prospective students in the program.
  • Participating in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Contributing to the administration and evaluation of the program as directed.
  • Undertaking additional duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Faculty members are encouraged to allocate up to 20% of their weekly time for clinical practice to maintain their PA skills. Evidence of scholarly and service activities is required, which may vary based on academic rank and professional trajectory, but should encompass areas such as applying clinical practice insights to classroom instruction, conducting and reporting research relevant to promotion, presenting scholarly work, and involving graduate students in research skill development leading to presentations and publications. Detailed faculty requirements for teaching, scholarship, and service based on rank and promotion are outlined in the program faculty handbook, which will be provided upon hiring or upon request.

Position Requirements:

  • Possession of a current New York State Physician Assistant license, with ongoing maintenance throughout employment.
  • Graduation from a physician assistant program and a minimum of a master's degree in physician assistant studies or a related field.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, curriculum development experience, teaching, and administrative skills.
  • Strong connections to the local medical community.
  • A proven track record of scholarly and service contributions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to the academic objectives of the institution and the mission of the PA program.
  • Prior experience with ARC-PA accreditation processes and articulation procedures.
