Position Summary:

The IT Support Specialist I role primarily focuses on the installation, upkeep, and training related to hardware and software on microcomputer workstations within both local and wide area networks. The individual in this position is responsible for resolving technical issues that arise on microcomputer workstations, which may encompass hardware, communication, or multi-product integration challenges. This team is dedicated to assisting end-users and data processing staff while managing and addressing troubleshooting needs for users across the DOJ-wide area network.

Required Qualifications:

  • An associate degree in information technology or a related discipline.
  • One to three years of experience in supporting network or computer systems technologies.
  • Other combinations of education, certification, or experience may be acceptable.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team setting, demonstrating strong communication skills, personal awareness, and emotional intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of desktop and laptop support, including troubleshooting for various versions of Microsoft Windows.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and their troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Understanding of computer peripherals such as scanners, printers, and multifunction printers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of system diagnostic tools and utility software, including PC Tools and antivirus solutions.
  • Awareness of LANs, WANs, and WWANs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft System Center applications.
  • Familiarity with mobile devices, including tablets and smartphones.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • May require extended hours of computer use.
  • Potential for a workweek exceeding 40 hours, including on-call duties for system upgrades and issue resolution.
  • Regular phone communication may be necessary for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to lift and transport computer hardware weighing up to 25 pounds.
