Position Summary:

The IT Support Specialist I role primarily encompasses the installation, upkeep, and training related to hardware and software on microcomputer workstations within both local and wide area networks. The individual in this position is responsible for providing technical solutions to issues encountered on microcomputer workstations, which may involve hardware, communication, or multi-product integration challenges. This team plays a crucial role in assisting end-users and data processing staff while managing troubleshooting for users across the DOJ-wide area network.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in information technology or a related discipline.
  • One to three years of experience in supporting network or computer systems technologies.

  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating effective communication, personal awareness, and emotional intelligence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of desktop and laptop support, including troubleshooting various versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Extensive familiarity with MS Office applications and their troubleshooting.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer peripherals, including scanners, printers, and multifunction printers.
  • Strong grasp of system diagnostic and utility software, including PC Tools, MS Sysinternals, and remote desktop support applications.
  • Understanding of LANs, WANs, and WWANs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft System Center applications.
  • Knowledge of mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • May require extended hours of computer use, exceeding 8 hours a day.
  • Willingness to work beyond a standard 40-hour workweek and be on-call for system upgrades and urgent issues.
  • Regular phone communication may be necessary to resolve issues through prolonged calls.
  • Ability to lift and move computer hardware, up to 25 lbs.
