Position Title: Clinical Donation Specialist I
Job Overview:
The Clinical Donation Specialist I (CDS I) plays a vital role in the surgical organ recovery process, ensuring the effective preservation and management of organs intended for transplantation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly and professionally to all organ recovery requests from operating rooms.
- Prepare and assemble necessary equipment and supplies for organ recovery.
- Verify all pre-recovery documentation and credentials of the surgical team.
- Transport essential materials such as coolers and recovery medications to the operating room.
- Assist hospital staff in preparing the donor for the recovery process.
- Participate in the procurement, preservation, and packaging of organs and specimens.
- Conduct in-situ preservation and flushing of donor organs, ensuring quality control throughout the process.
- Monitor and document the organ flush quality and communicate findings to the surgical team.
- Support the surgeon in packaging organs according to established protocols.
- Assist with additional tasks in the operating room, including documentation and packaging of donor materials.
- Ensure proper recovery and labeling of vessels for transplant use.
- Perform post-recovery care of the organ donor and manage the transport to the morgue.
- Collect and return all organ recovery equipment and documentation to the office.
- Prepare and monitor kidneys on preservation machines, assessing post-recovery function.
- Allocate organs from various donor sources in compliance with national protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all perfusion and laboratory areas.
- Provide educational presentations to hospital staff and the community regarding organ donation.
- Collaborate with local agencies to promote donation initiatives.
- Ensure all medical supplies are stocked and organized for operational efficiency.
- Travel as necessary within the designated service area for organ recovery activities.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree required.
- Preferred: Two years of experience as a surgical technician.
- Experience in an operating room environment and knowledge of sterile techniques.
- Surgical technician certification is a plus.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
