Position Title: Clinical Donation Specialist I

Job Overview:

The Clinical Donation Specialist I (CDS I) plays a vital role in the surgical organ recovery process, ensuring the effective preservation and management of organs intended for transplantation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to all organ recovery calls from operating rooms.
  • Prepare and assemble necessary equipment and supplies for organ recovery.
  • Conduct thorough pre-recovery reviews, including documentation verification and surgical team credentialing.
  • Transport essential materials such as coolers, perfusion solutions, and recovery medications to the designated operating room.
  • Assist operating room staff in preparing the donor for the recovery process.
  • Participate in the procurement, preservation, and packaging of organs and specimens.
  • Support in-situ preservation and flushing of donor organs, ensuring proper setup and monitoring of flush solutions.
  • Assist in the back-table flushing of organs, documenting quality and quantity of flush solutions used.
  • Collaborate with surgeons to package organs according to established protocols.
  • Engage in additional duties within the donor operating room, including lymph node and spleen removal, and documentation of recovery details.
  • Ensure proper recovery and labeling of vessels for transplant use.
  • Perform post-mortem care to maintain the integrity of the organ donor.
  • Facilitate the recovery of organs and associated tissues for research purposes.
  • Return all organ recovery equipment and documentation to the office post-recovery.
  • Prepare and monitor kidneys on pulsatile preservation machines.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of national computer programs related to organ allocation.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of perfusion areas and organ laboratories.
  • Deliver professional presentations and training to healthcare facilities regarding organ donation.
  • Actively support organizational goals related to hospital development for donation.
  • Communicate with relevant authorities upon completion of donation processes.
  • Maintain a well-stocked and organized medical supply area.
  • Travel as necessary within the designated service area for organ recovery activities.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree required.
  • Preferred two years of experience as a surgical technician.
  • Experience in operating room settings and sterile techniques is essential.
  • Surgical technician certification is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
