Position Overview:
Pay Schedule I, Grade 26,
Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.
A vacancy exists in the Division of Electrical Inspections within the Department of Permits, Approvals, and Inspections.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Electrical Inspector, the role involves inspecting all electrical work related to construction, repair, or alteration activities to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and other relevant laws, codes, and regulations.

Key Duties Include:

  • Conducting inspections of electrical systems associated with permit applications for electrical work.
  • Investigating complaints regarding potential violations of electrical codes and related regulations.
  • Providing guidance to contractors, property owners, and the public on compliance measures for electrical systems.
  • Preparing cases and testifying at hearings and court proceedings related to enforcement matters.
  • Assisting the County Attorney in prosecuting code enforcement cases.
  • Utilizing automated office systems for word processing, database management, and record maintenance.
  • Addressing and resolving customer inquiries and issues.

Additional Duties:
Performing other related tasks as required.


Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification, along with three years of experience in building, electrical, and/or plumbing inspection, construction, repair, maintenance, zoning inspection, or livability inspection work. Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Further education in construction technology or engineering may also be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of one year for the required experience.


Licenses and Certifications:

A valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Some positions may require registration as a Journeyman or Master Plumber in Baltimore County, or as a Master General Electrician, or possession of a Statewide Master Electrician License.


Documentation Requirements:

Applicants must submit proof of licenses, certifications, and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must indicate the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Failure to submit proof will result in disqualification.


Examination Procedure:

Applicants will be evaluated based on their training and experience as stated in their application, including responses to supplemental questions. It is essential to clearly and completely state the dates and duties of past and present experience for evaluation purposes.


Working Conditions:

Employees may be required to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. They may also be subject to call to duty as required. Proficiency in multiple fields of code inspection and enforcement is essential.


Physical Requirements:

The role involves walking, standing, climbing, stooping, and lifting moderate-weight objects. Duties also include frequent travel between inspection sites and exposure to adverse weather conditions.


Medical Examination and Background Investigation:

Selected candidates must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening, and an employment investigation, which includes criminal background checks, education verification, and fingerprint checks.
