Position Overview
We are looking for an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor who will oversee, allocate, and evaluate the tasks of a team of approximately 10 skilled electricians. This team is responsible for the installation, testing, upkeep, and repair of electrical systems and infrastructure.
Campus Overview
The campus encompasses around 4,000,000 square feet of facilities supported by multiple high-voltage electrical feeders that are transformed to lower voltages at the building level.
Key Responsibilities
The Supervisor will operate with a significant degree of autonomy while adhering to established policies and guidelines. Key responsibilities include:
- Formulating and developing departmental goals and objectives.
- Providing technical guidance and training to team members.
- Scheduling and supervising the installation of conduits, wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
- Managing maintenance and switching operations of the high-voltage electrical system.
- Troubleshooting and rectifying electrical faults in campus facilities.
- Maintaining fire alarm systems, including testing and diagnosing issues.
- Researching and implementing new operational methods and technologies.
- Reviewing plans for new constructions to ensure compliance with electrical codes.
- Overseeing electrical installations and repairs performed by external contractors.
- Continuously seeking to enhance operations and improve service quality.
- Assisting in the preparation of specifications for electrical equipment procurement.
- Participating in long-term capital planning for electrical upgrades.
- Ensuring adherence to budgeting guidelines and managing a maintenance reserve budget.
- Coordinating electrical outages as necessary.
- Maintaining comprehensive records and reports related to electrical operations.
- Ensuring timely completion of preventive maintenance tasks.
- Anticipating and procuring necessary supplies for daily operations.
- Preparing labor and material estimates.
- Applying supervisory principles to train and develop staff.
- Making decisions regarding hiring, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Interpreting and enforcing university policies and safety regulations.
- Proactively identifying potential issues before they escalate.
- Maintaining a safe working environment for all staff.
- Monitoring productivity and documenting staff performance.
- Utilizing timekeeping systems for accurate reporting.
- Being available for emergency calls as needed.
Decision-Making Authority
The Supervisor will carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision, establishing work priorities for the team.
Communication Skills
Proficiency in computer usage is essential, along with the ability to read and interpret technical documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a High School Diploma or GED, with formal training in the electrical field being highly desirable. A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical maintenance and at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity is required. Familiarity with high-voltage electrical systems and applicable codes is essential. A Master Electrician License is preferred, along with completion of an electrical journeyman level program.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to sit for extended periods, reach in various directions, and manipulate objects with dexterity. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in diverse environmental conditions.
