Position Summary

The **Manager of Coding Audits** is tasked with overseeing audit processes across all facilities to ensure adherence to health system protocols and compliance with regulatory standards, including OIG, HSCRC, CMS, NCCI, and OCG. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of coding practices and enhancing documentation quality.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough audits of coding personnel, auditors, and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) staff to promote compliance and documentation enhancement.
  • Collaborating with the Coding Manager and Training Manager to develop and recommend Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
  • Engaging with CDI teams across facilities to ensure guideline compliance and identify areas for documentation improvement.
  • Ensuring that all auditors complete departmental orientation before undertaking auditing tasks.
  • Participating in Coding Roundtable (CRT) discussions to share insights and best practices.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Technology or a related field, or 7 years of relevant experience; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in coding inpatient and outpatient hospital medical records.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience in the coding sector, overseeing professional staff; 5 years of auditing experience is also required.
  • Experience managing multi-facility departments is preferred.
  • Certification as one of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), AHIMA Approved ICD10CM/PCS Trainer, Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
  • Preferred certifications include Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and computer proficiency.
  • Typing skills suitable for the role.
