Job Description and Duties

As a Utilities Engineer with the Public Utilities Commission, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and reliability of electric distribution, transmission, substation, and communication facilities. Under the supervision of a Senior Utilities Engineer, you will conduct audits of inspection and maintenance records, and field inspections of utility electric and communication infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct technical engineering investigations and analyses of complex issues involving electric distribution, transmission, substation, and communication facilities.
  • Prepare clear, comprehensive, and persuasive reports on technical issues and make verbal presentations to explain issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Investigate utility incidents involving death, injury, and property damage, and customer complaints.
  • Travel frequently, including occasional multi-day and/or overnight stays, to conduct inspections and investigations.
Requirements:
  • Valid California Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Experience in technical engineering and knowledge in the field of utility safety and reliability, specifically in the area of electric facility and communication technology.
  • Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports and make verbal presentations.
Working Conditions:

This position requires travel and occasional overnight stays. Positions at the CPUC may be eligible for telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.
