Under the direction of a Senior Utilities Engineer (Supervisor), the Utilities Engineer will undertake engineering tasks in the field associated with the Commission's oversight of the safety and dependability of electric distribution, transmission, substation, and communication systems. This oversight encompasses the stipulations outlined in Commission General Orders 95, 128, 165, 166, 167, 174, and 176. Responsibilities of the Utilities Engineer include performing audits of inspection and maintenance documentation, as well as conducting field inspections of utility electric and communication infrastructure. Engineers within the Electric Safety and Reliability Branch also investigate utility incidents involving fatalities, injuries, property damage, and customer grievances. A significant portion of the engineer's office time is dedicated to drafting reports on audits and investigations, preparing for forthcoming inspections, addressing safety-related customer complaints, and occasionally preparing for and testifying in formal proceedings before the Commission regarding the enforcement of electric and communication safety regulations. Furthermore, the incumbent will be required to travel frequently, which may include occasional multi-day and/or overnight assignments that necessitate driving over 100 miles and working irregular hours.
