Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must not have more than two incidents of Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the past five years.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • No history of chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could impact job performance.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.

Medical Standards: This role has specific medical requirements that must be met, which will be evaluated during the pre-employment process. Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties associated with the Rotorcraft-Helicopter Aviation Safety Inspector role safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodations. Minimum medical requirements include:

  • Good distant vision in each eye and the ability to read printed materials of typewritten size (glasses and contact lenses are acceptable).
  • Ability to hear conversational speech (hearing aids are permitted).
  • No physical conditions that would pose a risk to oneself or others or interfere with the ability to fly as a passenger in various aircraft.

Specialized Experience and Certification: To qualify, applicants must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-9, FG-11, or FG-12 level. This experience should showcase the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful performance in this role. Examples of specialized experience should be included in the work history.

Additionally, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possession of a valid or expired Flight Instructor Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter category rating or relevant instructional experience in an approved program.
  • A minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction in a Rotorcraft-Helicopter or an approved flight simulation training device.
  • Holding an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with both Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument-Helicopter ratings.
  • A total of 1,500 flight hours as pilot-in-command or second-in-command, with at least 1,000 hours in helicopters.
  • Three years of experience in an organization with an air carrier, commercial operator, or air agency certificate.
  • No more than two flying accidents in the last five years involving pilot error.

Experience Levels: Specialized experience at the FG-12 level involves complex assignments requiring planning, organization, and independent work. At the FG-11 level, responsibilities are broader with less clear guidelines, while FG-9 level experience typically involves familiar aircraft and compliance with specific instructions.
