This position is for an Air Reserve Technician (ART) role. ARTs are integral members of the career civil service and receive all benefits associated with Federal employment. Additionally, ARTs must maintain active membership in their assigned Air Force Reserve unit. On average, ARTs participate in military training one weekend each month.

Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is to function as an Air Reserve Technician (ART); to monitor and assess the quality of ongoing and completed maintenance tasks, ensuring adherence to established technical and management protocols while achieving high-quality maintenance standards; to oversee the organization’s product enhancement, weight and balance, functional check flight (FCF), and technical order distribution initiatives; and to instruct reservists in the responsibilities associated with this position.

1. Assesses the performance of assigned personnel, documentation, and observable maintenance activities to ensure compliance with technical and procedural guidelines.

2. Acts as a technical consultant and support to production work center managers in resolving quality-related issues.

3. Manages the Quality Assessment Program (QAP). Keeps quality assurance tracking and trending programs updated. Oversees the unit FCF program for maintenance, coordinating the development of relevant FCF checklists and procedures with operations.

4. Oversees the unit aircraft weight and balance program. Conducts weight and balance calculations for integration into software data systems.

5. Maintains a comprehensive technical order library for aircraft maintenance operations. Prepares for, trains, and participates in the training of reservists.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be evaluated based on the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. While specific experience duration is not mandatory for most blue-collar roles, candidates must meet any screen-out criteria and demonstrate through experience and training that they possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the position.

The critical screen-out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an Aircraft Work Inspector without requiring excessive supervision.

Essential Skills: Your qualifications will be assessed based on your knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies in the following areas:

1. Ability to conduct various inspections, including in-process inspections, preflight/basic post-flight, and through-flight checks to identify and isolate malfunctions and determine when new assemblies, components, and parts of aircraft should be installed, reworked, repaired, or adjusted.

2. Comprehensive understanding of assigned weapon systems, including airframes and aircraft systems, and their interrelationships, necessary for conducting operational checks and verifying performance limits.

3. Proficiency in using various tools required for assessments, such as micrometers, torque wrenches, and tension meters.

4. Knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and technical orders. Understanding of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security.

5. Ability to maintain a clean work area upon completion of tasks. Familiarity with managing functional databases.

6. Knowledge of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and processes. Understanding of skill enhancement training requirements.

Additional Information:

1. May be required to fly in military or commercial aircraft for FCF and/or temporary duty assignments.

2. Performs other related duties as assigned.

3. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The work schedule will be structured to allow full participation in unit training assemblies. Regular assignments will primarily consist of ART duties, with a limited portion of non-ART responsibilities.
