Position Title: Director of Housing Justice

Reports to: Vice President of Advocacy

Location: Chicago, IL

The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County is dedicated to promoting social justice and economic equity. Position Overview: We are seeking a Director of Housing Justice to lead strategic initiatives aimed at advancing fair housing laws and policies. This role will employ a community-focused approach to ensure that individuals living in poverty, communities of color, and other marginalized groups have access to safe, affordable housing.

The Director will work to dismantle systemic barriers that perpetuate racial segregation and inequitable outcomes for diverse communities. This position will involve collaboration at both local and national levels, utilizing networks and partnerships to drive impactful projects. The Director will also contribute to coordinated advocacy efforts, including litigation and legislative strategies, while collecting and analyzing data to assess effectiveness and inform program adjustments.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide strategic leadership and direction for housing law and policy initiatives, developing and implementing effective strategies and goals.
· Mentor and supervise a team of attorneys, program associates, interns, and volunteers, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to advance housing justice objectives.
· Foster relationships with current and prospective partners, representing the organization in various coalitions, working groups, and task forces.
· Lead advocacy efforts on housing justice issues at local, state, and national levels, ensuring community engagement and input.
· Engage in systemic litigation and represent clients in consultation with the Vice President of Advocacy.
· Collaborate with the Communications team to promote advocacy initiatives through media and public relations efforts, serving as a spokesperson when necessary.
· Partner with local, state, and national networks to bolster the housing justice agenda.
· Assist the development team in fundraising activities, including grant proposal preparation and budget management.
· Work with the training team to create training opportunities for advocates.
· Evaluate the housing justice team's progress in alignment with organizational goals.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Juris Doctor degree and a minimum of 7 years of legal experience.
· At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, including hiring and performance evaluations.
· Strong background in public and assisted housing programs, fair housing, tenants' rights, and related advocacy.
· Proven track record in advancing advocacy campaigns addressing legal and policy issues affecting marginalized communities, including experience in litigation and lobbying.
· Ability to manage and motivate diverse teams effectively.
· Strong collaborative skills with a focus on accountability.
· Self-motivated with creative problem-solving abilities.
· Willingness to travel as required (approximately 20%).
· Experience in complex litigation is highly desirable.
· Multilingual abilities are a plus.
