Hamilton Tharp is seeking a motivated Trust & Estate Tax Specialist to join our expanding team. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a creative, committed team player with a strong dedication to client service who is eager to advance their career. At Hamilton Tharp, you will engage directly with clients to support their accounting, tax, and financial requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review various tax returns, including federal, multi-state, complex business entities, high-net-worth individuals, as well as Gift, Estate, and Trust returns.
  • Supervise, assist, and mentor junior staff members.
  • Offer insightful and accurate advice on intermediate financial and accounting matters.
  • Interpret moderately complex data and provide detailed information to management as required, while effectively managing budgets for client engagements.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and attorneys for large family office and estate clients.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of legal documents to prepare summaries for accounting and tax preparation.
  • Review personal work product meticulously before submission to ensure high-quality output with minimal revisions.
  • Keep partners informed of significant developments in client engagements.
  • Understand and apply advanced tax code sections and regulations accurately and consistently.
  • Stay updated on industry newsletters and current tax legislation, understanding how changes may impact client engagements and planning.
  • Implement tax planning techniques and provide tailored recommendations for specific clients.
  • Prepare advanced corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of tax returns prepared by others and provide constructive feedback.
  • Exhibit high proficiency in tax and accounting research methodologies.
  • Utilize available reference resources effectively to find the best solutions quickly.
  • Manage multiple client assignments simultaneously, ensuring the success of each project.
  • Identify client needs and opportunities to promote additional products or services.
  • Establish work schedules through effective project management techniques.
  • Develop deeper knowledge and skills in technical areas and begin to cultivate a specialization.
  • Pursue self-development opportunities aligned with the competency model.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with client management and peers.
  • In collaboration with the assignment manager, organize and control multiple responsibilities and resources to achieve assignment objectives.
  • Manage the implementation of solutions for clients.
  • Advise and mentor team members, providing consistent recognition and encouragement, while exemplifying high energy and enthusiasm.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member to complete project components and assignment tasks.
  • Successfully lead and maintain a motivated and empowered work team.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of the team's work to ensure quality, thoroughness, and timely completion of assignment tasks.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance assignment profitability and address any risk management issues.
  • Actively support new initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or equivalent coursework) and CPA license with a minimum of 5 years in public accounting and tax preparation.
  • Proficiency in relevant IRC sections and regulations.
  • Experience with Estate & Trust matters.
  • Understanding of the rules, requirements, and ethical standards of the AICPA and other regulatory bodies.
  • High proficiency in QuickBooks, PCS, UltraTax, SurePrep, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with GEMS is a plus.
  • Expertise in standard concepts, practices, and procedures in accounting.
