SUMMARY
This role is situated within the Cataloging Department of Weis Library at Washington Adventist University. The Cataloging Department is tasked with the precise classification and cataloging of all materials integrated into the library's collection. The Student Library Assistant will support the Cataloging Librarian and may undertake additional responsibilities as designated by the Library Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General:
  • Engages in the ongoing operations of the department.
  • Assists the Cataloging Librarian in various tasks.
Specific:
  • Processes new materials added to the library collections.
  • Aids in the retrospective conversion and reclassification of library resources.
  • Updates records for serial holdings.
  • Participates in the inventory of library materials.
  • Works at the Circulation Desk to gain comprehensive knowledge of processing.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Familiarity with MS Word and MS Excel.

  • While executing the responsibilities of this role, the Student Library Assistant must be able to see, speak, and hear; handle books and other materials; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The Student Library Assistant is expected to regularly navigate stairs.
  • The Student Library Assistant must frequently lift books and occasionally lift boxes of books and other heavy items.
