About the Role

The Penn State University Libraries are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Head of Library Learning Services. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in advancing the Libraries' teaching, learning, and information literacy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement a Vision for Library Learning Services: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for the Library Learning Services department, which will include developing teaching and learning expertise and experiences, coordinating foundational-level information literacy learning experiences, and managing physical and virtual learning spaces.
  • Supervise and Mentor a Team of Professionals: The Head of Library Learning Services will directly supervise and mentor a team of seven faculty members, two staff members, and graduate and undergraduate student colleagues.
  • Collaborate with University Libraries Departments and External Partners: The successful candidate will collaborate with other University Libraries departments and external partners to advance the Libraries' teaching, learning, and information literacy initiatives.
  • Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: The Head of Library Learning Services will develop and implement a strategic plan to advance the Libraries' teaching, learning, and information literacy initiatives.
Requirements
  • Master of Library Science Degree: A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
  • Substantial Relevant Experience: The successful candidate will have substantial relevant experience with information literacy and instruction in an academic, special, or research library setting.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The successful candidate will have a commitment to and experience with initiatives that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong Leadership and Communication Skills: The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus and support a strong, self-sufficient team.
