POSITION SUMMARY

This pivotal role functions as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO), guiding prospective students from initial inquiry through the enrollment process at Washington Adventist University. We are in search of a knowledgeable and enthusiastic professional responsible for assisting students with immigration matters, including F1 and J visas, I-20 documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal immigration regulations and university policies.

The selected candidate will also manage the I-20 process and engage with the international and national Hispanic communities through partnerships and outreach initiatives, advising students on all facets of the admissions journey and providing comprehensive information about the University. The successful applicant will represent the University through presentations on and off-campus to prospective students, their families, and educational professionals, while also supporting the admissions team in achieving its objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Principal Designated School Official (PDSO).
  • Collaborate with the International Program Director to enhance programs and services for international students.
  • Engage the Hispanic community through informative webinars and workshops to assist them in pursuing their higher education aspirations.
  • Oversee the transfer student pipeline from recruitment to enrollment.
  • Coordinate with the registrar's office to understand transfer credit evaluations.
  • Work with the Director of Enrollment to maintain knowledge of current Community College MOU and articulation agreements while striving to expand our portfolio.
  • Achieve departmental goals for inquiries, applications, and student admissions through effective application management.
  • Manage electronic reporting of data on students and exchange visitors to the federal government via the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), including the issuance of federal forms I-20 and DS-2019.
  • Monitor F-1 international student statuses and ensure compliance with SEVIS regulations.
  • Provide education and training on immigration classifications and the importance of accurate data entry.
  • Assist in the development of operational and statistical reports for regulatory agencies and institutional decision-making.
  • Facilitate communication workflows with all international student populations.
  • Support the Director of Enrollment in developing policies, procedures, and agreements with community colleges and international markets.
  • File necessary petitions for immigration compliance to assist international students in obtaining legal non-immigrant status.
  • Advise international students on U.S. immigration laws affecting non-immigrant F-1 visa holders.
  • Participate in recruitment events to enhance the international student pipeline.
  • Understand the admissions process and assist in evaluating applications.
  • Follow up with prospective students regarding admission inquiries.
  • Explore new international markets to support the Enrollment Goal of Vision 2030.
  • Attend relevant conferences for recruitment purposes.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and exceptional service.
  • Participate in university events and required meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MATHEMATICAL AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

Proficiency in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages is required. Familiarity with basic algebra and geometry concepts is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management is essential.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficiency in English is required, with Spanish-speaking skills preferred. The ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and governmental regulations is necessary. Strong writing skills for reports and correspondence are essential, along with the ability to effectively present information to various audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

An Associate's degree is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of three to five years of professional experience as a DSO with advanced knowledge of SEVIS and immigration regulations is essential. Experience in higher education is preferred.
