SUMMARY
This role is situated within the Cataloging Department of Weis Library at Washington Adventist University. The Cataloging Department is tasked with the precise classification and cataloging of all materials incorporated into the library's collection. The Student Library Assistant will support the Cataloging Librarian and may undertake additional responsibilities as designated by the Library Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General:
  • Engages in the ongoing activities of the department.
  • Offers assistance to the Cataloging Librarian.
Specific:
  • Processes new materials added to the library collections.
  • Aids in the retrospective conversion and reclassification of library materials.
  • Updates records of serial holdings.
  • Assists in conducting inventory of library materials.
  • Works at the Circulation Desk to gain a comprehensive understanding of processing.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Familiarity with MS Word and MS Excel.
Physical Demands:
  • The physical demands outlined here are representative of those required for the Student Library Assistant to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill these functions.
  • While executing the responsibilities of this role, the Student Library Assistant must be able to see, speak, and hear; handle books and other materials; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regular use of stairs is necessary.
  • The Student Library Assistant must frequently lift books and occasionally lift boxes of books and other heavy items.
