SUMMARY
This position is located in the Cataloging Department, Weis Library, Washington Adventist
University. The Cataloging Department is responsible for the accurate classification and cataloging of all
materials added to the library collection. The incumbent of the position is a Student Library Assistant
who will provide support to the Cataloging Librarian. In addition, the incumbent may perform other
duties as assigned by the Library Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General:
  • Participates in the ongoing work of the department.
  • Provides assistance to the Cataloging Librarian.

Specific:
  • Processes materials added to the library collections.
  • Assists in retrospective conversion and reclassification of library materials.
  • Updates serial holding records.
  • Assists in the inventory of materials in the library collections.
  • Works some hours at the Circulation Desk to gain an overviewing of processing.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with Computers.
  • Experience with MS Word, MS Excel

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Student Library Assistant is required to see, talk, and hear; to use hands to handle books and other objects; and to reach with hands and arms.
  • The Student Library Assistant must regularly use stairs.
  • The Student Library Assistant must regularly lift books and occasionally lift boxes of books and other heavy objects.
