JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Libraries is accepting applications for a Student Engagement and Outreach Assistant. The chosen candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the creation of programs that enhance the Leisure Reading collection and assist in the ongoing upkeep of the Leisure Reading room and its collections, which includes:
  • Collaborating with colleagues to plan, execute, and evaluate the Leisure Reading collection (both physical and digital);
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of events throughout the year that promote the Leisure Reading collection;
  • Developing and maintaining various book displays and digital bookshelves;
  • Keeping records and inputting data related to title selections.

Support outreach programming as needed, which includes:

  • Aiding in the planning, execution, and evaluation of various outreach initiatives;
  • Providing advice on related marketing efforts;
  • Attending and supporting events;
  • Examples of events include tours, orientations, resource fairs, open houses, De-Stress Fests, and wellbeing initiatives. Assist with the maintenance of library classrooms, which includes:
  • Supporting Library Learning Services in creating and managing student-centered learning environments (classrooms and sensory rooms);
  • Overseeing the cleaning of classroom whiteboards, managing supplies, and maintaining cleaning and restocking schedules.

Additional applicant requirements include:

  • A general understanding of Penn State and its Libraries;
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Excellent time management abilities;
  • Capability to work independently on assigned tasks;
  • High reliability;
  • Proficiency in Windows/Microsoft Office/Internet applications.

Work Days: Various (generally Monday to Friday, core days to be established)

Work Hours: Various (generally 8 AM to 5 PM, core hours to be established)

Number of Hours: 15 hours per week

Some evening hours may be required for event support.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Penn State publishes an Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those related to alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting of crimes, and other matters. The ASR is available for review.
