Position Overview

As a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer, you will be an integral part of our team, focusing on the design and implementation of plumbing and fire protection systems within various structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop plumbing and fire protection systems, prioritizing sustainable practices.
  • Assist in the design of essential plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary/vent, and stormwater management.
  • Contribute to the design of fire protection systems, such as sprinkler and standpipe systems.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and engineers to create cohesive solutions for intricate building projects.
  • Conduct and document engineering analyses, including code research, load calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Utilize Revit MEP for documenting system designs.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences through presentations and workshops.
  • Prepare detailed reports outlining calculation methods, design assumptions, and technical data.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Influence sustainable design outcomes in alignment with Arup's commitment to sustainability.
  • Engage in construction administration tasks, including site visits and review of submittals.
  • Participate in local professional organizations to enhance industry knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering.
  • A minimum of four years of professional experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.
  • Proficiency in 3D BIM software, particularly Revit MEP.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable development and the built environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with clients and team members.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to convey technical ideas clearly and accessibly.
  • Proactive attitude, enthusiasm for learning, and a commitment to teamwork and creativity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork.
  • Presentation skills suitable for engaging with colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification; pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is ideal.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as ASPE, ASSE, ASHRAE, NFPA, or SFPE.
  • Experience in sustainability courses or participation in USGBC initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a professional setting.
  • Experience with technical presentations and writing.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Dynamo, Python, or Grasshopper.
