**The opportunity**

+ Design of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems within the built environment, with an emphasis on sustainable design

+ Support designing plumbing systems such as domestic water, sanitary/vent, and storm systems.

+ Support designing fire protection systems fire sprinkler and standpipe systems.

+ Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to develop integrated solutions for complex buildings

+ Undertaking and documenting engineering analysis work, including code research, load calculations, and equipment sizing, in a clear manner.

+ Document system design in Revit MEP

+ Communicate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences using various formats, including presentations and workshops

+ Write reports documenting calculation methods and results, design assumptions, and other technical information

+ The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our changing environment

+ Influence with design on sustainable outcome for our clients to align with Arup sustainability commitment.

+ Assisting in construction administration activities such as site visits and submittal reviews.

+ Participating in local professional associations

**The skills**

+ Bachelors Degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering.

+ Four or more years of professional work experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems

+ Experience with 3D BIM software such as Revit MEP

+ Shown interest in the built environment and sustainable development

+ Ability to collaborate with clients

+ Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, ability to sustain focus on long tasks

+ Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way

+ Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity

+ Ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our changing environment

+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed for team-based working

+ Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels

+ Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

**Preferred**

+ FE desired, Ideal candidate will have or be working towards PE

+ Membership in ASPE, ASSE, ASHRAE, NFPA, or SFPE.

+ Courses in sustainability or USGBC participation

+ Shown ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision

+ Past history of technical presentations and technical writing

+ Computer programming languages (e.g., Dynamo, Python, Grasshopper)

**DC Hiring Range** Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in DC is $83,600 to $95,000 per year. **This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level** . Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Washington, DC will differ.
