The Fire Protection Engineer (PE) will deliver fire protection support within the NAVFAC Washington area, executing various tasks and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and production support for fire protection engineering from project initiation through completion.
  • Develop and implement projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build delivery methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers/designers, reviewing the work of other fire protection engineers for compliance with codes and feasibility.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately.
  • Offer technical expertise during negotiations with architectural engineering firms and general contractors, noting that the contractor does not have the authority to bind the government to a contract.
  • Address contractor submissions and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in:
  • Fire protection design and assessment of new and existing facilities.
  • Designing fire protection systems for new and existing structures.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Fire Protection Engineer in a U.S. state or territory is mandatory.
  • Comprehensive experience in all aspects of fire protection responsibilities, including:
  • Fire alarm and detection systems.
  • Water-based suppression systems.
  • Foam suppression systems.
  • Clean agent suppression systems.
  • Kitchen fire protection systems.
  • Special hazard design.
  • Final DoD Secret clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA, ICC, and UFC codes.
  • Experience in construction management, scheduling, and cost estimation.
  • Competent in developing comprehensive construction documents, including drawings and specifications for new and renovation projects.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and reviewing installed components.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Able to prepare and deliver high-level presentations to senior leadership.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations as required.
