Role Summary:

We are in search of a proficient Mechanical Engineer, PE to join our team, offering full-time, on-site support as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters Engineering Operations team. This role is pivotal in managing and executing intricate infrastructure repair and modernization initiatives while adhering to all applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and execution of extensive infrastructure repair and modernization projects, including the creation of performance work statements (PWS), estimation processes, and serving as a technical advisor during source selection boards.
  • Facilitate project execution meetings, act as Technical Representative, and conduct Quality Assurance and Safety compliance assessments.
  • Oversee functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems, ensuring thorough verification of design, installation, functionality, and performance.
  • Provide expert engineering guidance on compliance and quality management for major building systems, encompassing HVAC, water distribution, plumbing, medical gas, security and communications, building automation, and fire suppression systems.
  • Support DHA Enterprise Water Treatment Management programs by collecting and validating performance data and metrics for reporting purposes.
  • Assist Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in enhancing energy performance and water treatment efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers, offering technical reviews and supervision to foster their professional development and ensure adherence to engineering procedures and DHA policies.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in applied mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in mechanical engineering is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of documented practical experience in the healthcare sector, with at least 5 years of design and consulting experience. This experience should involve direct responsibility for the operation, maintenance, repair, and management of substantial mechanical infrastructure systems supporting large institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare facilities.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Clearance.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in the mechanical trade discipline, with extensive practical experience in analyzing plans, data, designs, operations, and maintenance practices.
  • Capability to develop estimates and provide recommendations for repairs, sustainment, and optimization of building systems.
  • Strong understanding of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills for delivering high-quality presentations to executive leadership and large audiences.
