Position Summary:

The Research Engineer I is tasked with enhancing the organization through the strategic planning and execution of innovative, project-based experiments. The focus will be on evaluating new materials across various departments, advancing fabrication techniques, and refining existing products. The role involves data analysis to guide project direction and requires regular collaboration with project leads, program managers, and the broader scientific community to achieve project goals. Strong judgment, effective communication, and time management skills are essential. Familiarity with optics molding is advantageous but not a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, design, and develop materials, processes, and systems.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of R&D initiatives.
  • Perform experimental tasks including reactions and metrology.
  • Clarify project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Identify necessary project tasks and resource requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, resource distribution, and timelines.
  • Guide and support project teams.
  • Prepare and present reports on project status, challenges, and solutions.
  • Implement project modifications to meet objectives.
  • Evaluate project outcomes and assess results.
  • Assist in transitioning R&D efforts to prototype and full-scale manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant fields such as Glass Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry, or equivalent experience in glass manufacturing.
  • Experience in laboratory environments, including safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations and compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in Optical Manufacturing is a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to interpret complex documents and communicate effectively with team members and management.

Additional Requirements:

  • Compliance with ITAR and EAR regulations is mandatory; applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse personalities while exercising sound judgment.
  • Adaptability to changing conditions within the R&D team.

Physical and Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
  • May involve prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision.
  • Regular use of computers and potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Work may occur in both laboratory and manufacturing settings with varying noise levels.
