Position Overview

Are you a recent graduate in engineering or just beginning your professional journey? If so, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Building & Fire Protection Engineering (BFPE) unit is looking for a dedicated Junior Fire Safety Engineer.

The BFPE unit is tasked with enforcing building codes and managing fire protection programs. As part of this role, you will provide engineering support to ensure the operation, maintenance, and reliability of fire protection systems, as well as compliance with building codes for new constructions and modifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review building modifications and new construction designs for compliance with codes and system compatibility.
  • Provide technical support throughout system acceptance and building occupancy processes.
  • Identify and analyze fire hazards while overseeing the installation and maintenance of fire detection, suppression, and communication systems.
  • Participate in training and obtain qualifications in fire hazard analysis and mitigation through effective facility design and system maintenance.

All positions at the Kesselring Site require participation in the Site's Emergency Response Organization.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related scientific field; or a Master's degree in the same disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in designing or maintaining various fire protection systems, including detection and notification systems, water-based suppression systems, and passive barriers.
  • Familiarity with developing engineering documents such as analyses, specifications, and maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory codes and standards, including the International Building Code, International Fire Code, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $61,000 - $93,400 annually. Please note that this is a general guideline, and actual salaries will be based on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
