Role Summary: The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in propelling the organization forward through the strategic planning and execution of innovative, project-based experiments. Responsibilities will encompass evaluating novel materials across various departments, advancing fabrication and processing techniques, and enhancing existing product lines. The individual will conduct data analysis to guide project objectives and will collaborate with project leads, program managers, and the broader scientific community to ensure successful outcomes. This position demands strong judgment, effective communication, and proficient time management skills. Candidates should be prepared to handle various chemicals, some of which may require specialized training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, design, and develop materials, processes, systems, and equipment.
  • Lead the planning and execution of research and development projects.
  • Perform reactions, fabrication, and measurement tasks.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Identify project tasks and necessary resources.
  • Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and timelines.
  • Guide and support project teams.
  • Prepare and present reports on project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Implement project modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Evaluate project results and performance.
  • Assist in transitioning R&D initiatives to prototype and full-scale manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Glass Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in glass manufacturing.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment, including familiarity with safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Knowledge of ITAR regulations and compliance in optics and quality assurance is preferred.
  • Experience in optical manufacturing is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex documents.

Additional Requirements:

  • In accordance with ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by U.S. law.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse personalities while exercising sound judgment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving conditions within the R&D team.

Physical and Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with arms; may involve working in confined spaces.
  • Job may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Frequent use of computers and handling of hazardous materials may be required.
  • Work environment includes laboratory and manufacturing settings with potential exposure to noise and moving mechanical parts.
