PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer at Masonite will collaborate with essential technical, manufacturing, and business stakeholders to identify, define, coordinate, and implement the development and evaluation of innovative residential door solutions, emphasizing acoustical performance.

This position is accountable for ensuring adherence to all safety and NVLAP standards set by OC/Masonite.

Additionally, this role involves mentoring and guiding junior scientists, engineers, technicians, and contractors to achieve the objectives of the OC Doors division.

The Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer will also represent Owens Corning in relevant external standards organizations, trade associations, and with clients as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Leadership
Facilitates and engages in regular safety discussions and ensures strict compliance with established safety protocols and OC/Masonite corporate policies.

Oversees the creation and upkeep of safety documentation and organizational structures for the Masonite Acoustics Laboratory and acoustical door prototyping areas.

Prioritizes maintaining a secure work environment for oneself and colleagues.
Product Development Strategy

Formulates and aids in executing both short-term and long-term acoustic product development strategies and innovation initiatives that align with business objectives.

Utilizes insights gained from testing and experimentation to inform the creation of new products and address complex challenges.

Collaborates with external clients to design and lead testing initiatives, providing analysis of outcomes that distinguish Masonite products within the door industry.

Establishes expertise as a Subject Matter Expert in acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms, leveraging guidance from internal and external mentors, including the Owens Corning Acoustical Principal Scientist.

Laboratory Management

Enhances and broadens the knowledge base and product offerings of the residential door acoustic product range as needed to support business prospects and strategic growth initiatives.

Identifies opportunities and offers testing solutions to facilitate new product introductions and expand the acoustic product portfolio, including configuration assessments and improvements in the demonstration of door system performance.

Recognizes opportunities to develop testing methodologies that enhance safety, data integrity, or operational efficiency.

Leads efforts to maintain and enhance laboratory quality and process documentation to uphold high standards of work quality.

Fosters and nurtures key relationships with clients and in collaboration with the Owens Corning Acoustic Research Center.
Ongoing Professional Development

Establishes oneself as a respected Subject Matter Expert in acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms, drawing on mentorship from internal and external experts, including the Owens Corning Acoustical Principal Scientist.

Provides leadership in selected consensus standards committees (WDMA, ASTM, ASA, INCE, etc.) to shape standards that influence Owens Corning and the Masonite brand.

Builds cross-business relationships to uncover growth opportunities in fundamental testing and initiates research in these areas.


QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
2+ years of experience in product research and development, ideally within building materials or similar sectors
Experience in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis and mitigation
Demonstrated success in identifying technical opportunities and developing product solutions from concept through to production
Willingness to travel up to 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience in leading teams or small groups
4+ years of experience in the NVH field with familiarity in ISO9001, ASTM, and international standards
Strong interest in innovation and problem-solving within the acoustics domain
Experience with B&K Pulse software or equivalent tools
