Job Overview

Position: Superintendent

The Superintendent plays a crucial role in the construction process, working closely with the Senior Superintendent to ensure the successful execution of projects. This position involves overseeing various specialized tasks that vary depending on the project's phase and complexity. The Superintendent is accountable for the following key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective workflow and project scheduling by coordinating trades, monitoring material deliveries, and maintaining ongoing communication to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes by verifying that all completed work adheres to testing and certification standards, conducting thorough inspections, and addressing any necessary corrections.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control through regular inspections, submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed, and ensuring that all changes are communicated effectively to minimize rework.
  • Oversee material management by verifying delivery tickets against shipments, rejecting defective items, and ensuring proper usage of materials on-site.
  • Implement cost control measures by promoting best practices among trades, reviewing project plans prior to change orders, and assessing completed work for invoicing.
  • Prioritize job site safety by conducting inspections, maintaining a safety violation log, and leading weekly safety meetings in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage site cleanliness and waste disposal by promoting good housekeeping practices, assigning cleaning duties, and ensuring adequate restroom facilities are available.
  • Protect company assets by securing construction sites, monitoring traffic, and reporting any incidents of theft or vandalism.
  • Oversee erosion control measures by maintaining rainfall logs and collaborating with consultants during site assessments.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as preparing meeting agendas, documenting minutes, establishing weekly schedules, and managing field paperwork.
  • Support a smooth post-construction process by assisting in defining turnover criteria and contributing to the final closeout report.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience managing construction projects from inception to completion.
  • At least 3 years of experience working on projects valued at $25 million or more.
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in wood framing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to interpret and follow project plans effectively.
