Position: Superintendent

The Superintendent plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Superintendent throughout various stages of the construction project. This position is responsible for overseeing specific daily operations under the guidance of the Senior Superintendent. The responsibilities can vary significantly based on the project's phase and complexity. Generally, the Superintendent is accountable for the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate efficient workflow and project scheduling by coordinating trades as instructed, managing material deliveries, and maintaining ongoing communication with trades to ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes by verifying that completed work meets all testing and certification standards, conducting frame and final inspections, and taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain high-quality standards by consistently inspecting work to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) when required, and notifying trades of any revisions or changes to ensure proper implementation.
  • Oversee material management by validating delivery tickets against actual shipments, cross-referencing with purchase orders, rejecting defective items, and ensuring materials are utilized appropriately.
  • Control project costs by promoting best practices among trades, reviewing plans and contracts prior to initiating change orders, and assessing completed work for monthly billing.
  • Prioritize job site safety by conducting site inspections, evaluating work practices and equipment, maintaining a safety violation log, and leading weekly safety meetings in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage site cleanliness and waste by implementing effective housekeeping practices, assigning cleaning responsibilities to trades, and ensuring adequate waste disposal facilities are available.
  • Protect site security by securing company assets and completed work, monitoring site access, and coordinating with law enforcement as necessary.
  • Oversee erosion control by maintaining a daily rainfall log, submitting monthly reports, and collaborating with erosion control consultants during site evaluations.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as preparing agendas for site meetings, documenting meeting minutes, establishing weekly schedules, and managing field paperwork.
  • Support a successful post-construction process by assisting in defining turnover criteria and contributing to the final closeout report and lessons learned documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience managing construction projects from inception to completion.
  • At least 3 years of experience working on projects valued at $25 million or more.
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in wood framing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans to guide subcontractors and vendors.
