Job Overview

Senior Construction Superintendent

The Senior Construction Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of subcontractors on the construction site and managing the Wood Partners (WP) field personnel assigned to the project. This position is pivotal in ensuring that all activities on the site align with the WP culture and standards. The Senior Construction Superintendent reports directly to the Project Manager (PM).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and assess pre-construction design documents, assist the PM in developing scopes of work, aid in establishing the baseline project schedule, and support the mobilization of the job site office; assist the PM with building permits and surveys.
  • Oversee field operations by supervising and evaluating staff performance while providing opportunities for learning, guidance on objectives, and scheduling.
  • Ensure the safety of the job site and field personnel by conducting site inspections, evaluating work practices, tools, and equipment, as well as maintaining a safety violation log, leading weekly safety meetings, and adhering to company protocols during OSHA inspections.
  • Manage overall field operations through regular foreman meetings, collaborating with project managers on corrective measures while fostering positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Facilitate effective workflow and scheduling by creating and monitoring a 3-Week Look Ahead schedule, coordinating with subcontractors/vendors, and ensuring timely material deliveries while addressing any scheduling concerns with the Project Manager.
  • Guarantee compliance with building codes by ensuring completed work meets all testing and certification standards, conducting frame, rough, and final inspections, and taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain quality assurance by continuously inspecting all work to ensure adherence to current plans and specifications, submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) to the PM when needed, and notifying trades of any updates or changes to published documents to minimize rework.
  • Oversee material management by verifying material delivery tickets against actual shipments, cross-referencing these with purchase orders, rejecting incorrect or defective items, and expediting replacements while ensuring proper material usage.
  • Ensure adherence to WP's Mold and Moisture Intrusion Protocol at all levels.
  • Manage cost control by promoting best practices among trades, reviewing plans and contracts prior to approving any extras, and measuring completed work for monthly payments.
  • Promote cleanliness and waste management by implementing effective housekeeping practices on-site, assigning cleaning responsibilities to trades, deploying dumpsters as needed, and ensuring adequate restroom facilities.
  • Protect site security by safeguarding company assets and completed work, locking construction sheds and buildings as necessary, monitoring site traffic, and engaging law enforcement when appropriate to report theft or vandalism.
  • Oversee erosion control measures by maintaining a daily log of rainfall, submitting monthly reports to the main office, and collaborating with erosion control consultants during site visits.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as preparing agendas for site meetings, issuing meeting minutes, logging daily reports, processing field paperwork, and managing supply runs as required.
  • Support a successful post-construction process by assisting in the completion of turnover inspections and contributing to final closeout reports and lessons learned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience with projects valued at $25M or more for at least 5 years.
  • Preferred 3 years of experience in wood framing.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising direct reports.
  • Familiarity with local regulations relevant to the project scope.
  • Strong competency in reading and understanding plans and specifications.
