A specialized unit dedicated to the care of adult patients diagnosed with various forms of cancer, including those who are newly diagnosed and require surgical intervention or are undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Position Summary:
The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is an entry-level registered nurse or an RN with less than 15 months of experience who demonstrates foundational safe practice in accordance with the American Nurses Association standards. This role requires guidance to integrate essential concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice.
The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is responsible for providing direct care to patients across the lifespan, from infancy to elderly, and must exhibit competency in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family-Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Teamwork, and Technology/Informatics.
This position necessitates close collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate coordinated care across the continuum. The nurse will focus on developing the necessary knowledge and skills to provide individualized care, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate factors for assigned patients.
The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice will seek consultation from more experienced clinicians and will benefit from constructive feedback while demonstrating growth in the ability to care for increasingly complex patients. The nurse will adhere to all regulations and standards set forth by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is expected to complete all competencies required for this level and is anticipated to advance to the Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague level within 18 months of professional practice.
Key Responsibilities:

- Participating in process improvement initiatives to enhance continuity in nurse-patient relationships.
- Completing mandatory education and training on age-specific needs and interpersonal skills.
- Maintaining a safe working environment through compliance with evidence-based practices.
- Seeking experiences and learning activities to develop clinical and professional skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current RN Licensure issued by the state Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until licensure is obtained. Candidates with Temporary Practice Permits must sit for the NCLEX within 60 days of starting in their RN role. All Clinical Nurse 1 RNs are required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency Program. CPR Certification from the American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher nursing degree is required based on established parameters.
