University of Maryland, Baltimore - Operations Management Coordinator
The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) is currently in search of an Operations Management Coordinator (Payroll) for the School of Dentistry.

The School of Dentistry maintains a centralized Human Resources and Payroll office that oversees a comprehensive array of human resource services and payroll processing functions.

With nearly 400 active employees, including 140 full-time faculty members, the School is committed to fostering a supportive work environment. Candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter and resume through the job portal when applying.
This position offers a Hybrid work model, allowing for two (2) telework days each week.

Primary Responsibilities:


Enhance the daily operational functions of two (2) or more business areas, including Human Resources (HR transactions) and Payroll.

Evaluate issues of varied scope, identify solutions, and interpret policies (e.g., HR and payroll).
Interpret procedures and policies to determine suitable actions in significant matters.

Adhere to, propose, interpret, and ensure compliance with operational standards, policies, protocols, and procedures to guarantee effective and efficient business operations.

Facilitate departmental payroll functions such as payroll processing, reconciliation, commitment accounting, tracking payroll adjustments, and ensuring timely submission and approval.

Ensure the accuracy of departmental payroll reconciliation and adherence to processing deadlines.
Process overpayments and leave adjustments, and may conduct complex payroll calculations.

Review timesheets for accuracy, monitor compliance, and manage the review and approval process for all faculty and staff timesheets.

Review, analyze, and process various HR transactions to ensure accuracy and timely submission based on processing deadlines.
Manage HR transaction logs, audits, and leave accrual reports.
Oversee family and medical leave requests, parental leave, advance sick leave, accident leave, etc.
Interpret relevant policies to determine appropriate actions related to HR transactions and payroll processing.

Administer HR transactions and payroll to ensure optimal efficiency, interpretation, and compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and institutional policies.

Audit transactions to assess acceptance and formulate decisions regarding issue resolution.
Identify discrepancies and take necessary actions to correct them.

Investigate, research, apply, and communicate HR and payroll regulations, practices, policies, and programs, providing basic problem resolution support and escalating to management, Central HR, and Financial Services Payroll as needed.

May offer guidance, training, and mentorship to less experienced personnel in daily business operations.
Acquire and disseminate new expertise and methodologies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, finance, marketing, accounting, human resources, or a related field.

Experience:

A minimum of three (3) years of business-related experience is required, with at least one (1) year of experience in at least two of the following areas: human resources, payroll, finance, facility management, or research administration.


Other:
Related experience may substitute for minimum educational requirements.

Preferred:
Experience in payroll and HR transactions.
Experience in higher education.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Understanding of position requirements.
Knowledge of applicable regulations and laws.
Proficiency in the effective use of relevant technology/systems.
Ability to communicate thoughts, ideas, and facts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Capacity to work collaboratively with others and independently.

Salary Range:
$68,000 - $78,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
