POSITION SUMMARY:

A Driver - CDL (A) is tasked with the safe operation of a heavy commercial vehicle, which may include a tractor-trailer or a straight truck with a pup trailer, to ensure timely and courteous delivery and collection of large containers. The Driver - CDL (A) must ensure that their vehicle complies with the Company's safety standards before operation, adhere to all Company, state, and federal regulations during vehicle operation, and complete daily vehicle condition reports (VCRs) to address any vehicle defects promptly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct thorough pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle in line with Company policy to verify tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are functioning correctly. Report any safety concerns on standard reports.

• Safely navigate the heavy truck along designated routes and to disposal sites; interpret route sheets, follow maps, and service each customer as indicated on the route sheet or as directed by the dispatcher and/or supervisor.

• Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Company safety protocols to lift and load refuse, operate compactors, and dispose of collected materials at designated facilities.

• Engage courteously with all customers, dispatchers, and others daily to ensure timely and professional service of all customer routes.

• Perform minor repairs to containers on-site or in the container yard.

• Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them according to departmental procedures.

• Continuously monitor waste for signs of unacceptable materials.

• Clean areas around accidental waste spills, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards and policies.

• Regularly assess the vehicle's condition to ensure it is operationally ready at all times, minimizing downtime; clean waste from the container and its edges on each disposal trip.

• Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports as necessary.

• Maintain adherence to required productivity standards to ensure all customers receive timely and efficient service.

• Follow all mandated safety policies and procedures.

• Actively participate in the Company's ReSOP program.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong customer service skills to meet and exceed client expectations; act professionally, courteously, and cooperatively towards customers and colleagues; demonstrate honesty and trustworthiness.

• Effective time management skills to ensure responsibilities are fulfilled efficiently and safely.

• Strong follow-through ability; adhere to work schedules and address challenges as they arise.

• Ability to comply with Company policies and regulations; promote safety standards; avoid unnecessary risks.

• Two years of prior experience driving commercial vehicles preferred.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to perform minor repairs to containers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement.
