Position Overview
The Service Technician for Fuel Cell Systems will be responsible for the upkeep and support of our innovative fuel cell technologies utilized in electric lift trucks. This role involves conducting preventive maintenance and addressing any operational failures that may arise.
This individual will take charge of the installation and servicing of fuel cells at designated locations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Additionally, the technician will be tasked with documenting breakdown incidents, managing parts procurement, and maintaining the fuel cell systems at their assigned sites. This position offers significant interaction with customer personnel and electric lift truck operators, necessitating strong technical expertise along with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and motivational abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance and servicing of fuel cells at client locations.
- Execute diagnostics, troubleshooting, and assessments to ensure the fleet operates efficiently.
- Perform specialized service tasks, including field retrofits and both software and hardware enhancements to existing fuel cells.
- Provide on-call and emergency support services to clients as necessary.
- Acquire tools, equipment, and parts essential for customer service and support as needed.
This role may involve troubleshooting and maintaining high-pressure hydrogen storage systems, 480VAC systems, flammability controls, cryogenic liquids, high-pressure gases, and fueling systems. It may also require ongoing communication with customer representatives and hydrogen suppliers regarding aftermarket support for fuel cells. Regular feedback to regional service representatives about fuel cell performance and maintenance issues is expected.
Administrative Duties
- Complete necessary documentation, including incident reports, service logs, inventory management, and site/system documentation.
- Uphold and enforce safety protocols in the field or at customer sites.
- Travel as required for business needs, ensuring safe driving practices and adherence to traffic regulations.
Represent Plug Power with professionalism in all interactions and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with technical coursework in electrical systems.
- A minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
- Formal training may be considered in lieu of direct experience.
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required, along with the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Capability to lift 50 pounds regularly without assistance.
- Familiarity with lift truck operations and applications is highly desirable.
- General mechanical aptitude is essential.
- Proficiency in computer and software systems relevant to the position, including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
