Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Technician A to join our team at Virginia Transportation Corp. As a key member of our maintenance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of our diesel equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect and Maintain Equipment: Conduct regular inspections and perform preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Diagnose and Repair Issues: Use your technical expertise to diagnose and repair complex problems with diesel equipment, including hydraulic systems and electronic diagnostics.
- Provide Guidance and Support: Assist and guide other maintenance personnel as needed, ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
- Ensure Safety and Compliance: Conduct safety checks on trucks and ensure that all maintenance work is performed in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Estimate and Manage Costs: Accurately estimate time and material costs for repairs and manage costs to ensure that they are within budget.
- Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and effective communication with the lead mechanic/foreman and other staff members in the maintenance department.
- Class A CDL License: A Class A CDL license is preferred but not required.
- Certified Welder: Certification as a welder is preferred but not required.
- Experience in Diesel Equipment Maintenance: A minimum of 5 years' experience in class 8 tractor truck maintenance, with a background in hydraulics.
- Electronic Diagnostics and Hydraulic Systems: Proficiency in electronic diagnostics and hydraulic systems, including Cummins and Paccar.
- Transportation Management System: Knowledge of transportation management systems is a plus.
- Computer Literacy: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft, Outlook, and Excel.
- Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
- Physical Demands: The physical demands of this role include sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, and reaching.
