Position Overview:

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for delivering direct patient support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to ensure optimal care for all assigned individuals. The PCA plays a vital role in maintaining a secure and comfortable environment for patients.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Administers personal hygiene and comfort care to patients, including assistance with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and bed making.
  • Monitors and records vital signs as directed by the RN, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication of results.
  • Conducts glucose finger stick tests and collects various specimens such as stool, urine, and sputum for laboratory analysis.
  • Records daily patient weights and carefully observes and documents intake and output.
  • Ensures a safe patient environment by promptly responding to call lights and alerting the RN to any changes in patient conditions.
  • Acts as a patient sitter when necessary to provide additional support.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety within the nursing unit and patient rooms.

Patient-Centered Care:

Recognizes and addresses the unique needs of the patient population served, tailoring care to meet specific requirements related to age, culture, and sensory impairments. This includes effective communication with patients and their families at an appropriate developmental and educational level.


Collaboration:

Engages in regular communication with Medical Center staff, patients, and visitors to foster a collaborative care environment.


Work Schedule:

Shifts are from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, working five 8-hour shifts per week, with every other weekend required. Holiday coverage is also expected.


Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certifications: Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant or a nursing student enrolled in a BSN program who has completed the fundamentals of nursing. Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association is also required.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
