The Product Performance Optimization (PPO) team is seeking a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer to spearhead the structural, thermal, and dynamic evaluations of touch sensors, flat panel displays, and their integration methodologies.

Our team is instrumental in supporting a remarkable array of products. Key Responsibilities: This engineer will take ownership of and lead analyses on pioneering designs, facilitating early optimization of materials, processes, and structural designs, as well as conducting root cause and failure analyses of complex mechanical challenges.

  • Develop FEA/analytical models for mechanical components, modules, and assemblies.
  • Execute static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical analyses.
  • Lead and implement material characterization and testing strategies to enhance modeling efforts, with a preference for experience in adhesive materials, ACF materials, and flat panel display materials.
  • Establish and maintain consistent modeling and analysis methodologies across various programs.
  • Collaborate with fellow analysts to integrate module models into comprehensive system assemblies.
  • Regularly communicate and present analysis findings to team members, as well as cross-functional peers and management.
  • Drive failure analysis, root cause investigations, and experimental design to address challenging issues.
  • Generate innovative solutions to problems based on analytical data.
  • Create relevant engineering specifications and develop processes to ensure consistent early analysis and validation of critical design issues.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should possess a solid academic foundation in solid mechanics of materials, along with a minimum of 1 year of experience in advanced FEA simulations within industrial environments.

Strong understanding of mechanics of materials and the ability to interpret complex physical mechanisms using fundamental principles. Proficiency in FEA software such as Abaqus (Implicit & Explicit) or ANSYS is essential. Experience with static, dynamic, and thermal-mechanical simulations to solve practical engineering challenges in industrial contexts is required. Familiarity with material constitutive models, including metals, brittles, plastics, and adhesives is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary, along with a collaborative mindset to work effectively with internal and cross-functional teams. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment is crucial.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with over 5 years of experience in advanced FEA analysis related to high-volume consumer electronic products and/or modules will be favored. Direct experience with flat panel displays, touch sensors, and lamination processes is advantageous.

High proficiency in Abaqus (Implicit & Explicit) or ANSYS, as well as Altair Hyperworks, is highly desirable. Structural and thermal focus; experience with non-linear FEA is a plus.

Applied knowledge/experience with flex circuits, ACF bonding, adhesives, flat panel displays, material science, and basic chemistry is beneficial.

Experience with structural optimization through FEA automation and/or machine learning is highly sought after. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to engage effectively with management, team members, and external partners. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to collaborate efficiently with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives and contribute positively to the engineering community.

Education & Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or Mechanics of Materials is required, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Compensation & Benefits: At Apple, base salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a defined range. This structure allows for growth and advancement as you develop within your role.

The base salary range for this position is between $138,900 and $256,500, with actual compensation dependent on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
