Position: Financial Counselor – Revenue Cycle/Clinic
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: Revenue Cycle
Work Arrangement: Remote with occasional travel for training and meetings
Reporting To: Revenue Cycle Management Manager
Position Summary:
The Financial Counselor is responsible for delivering professional and approachable financial guidance to patients regarding their financial obligations. This role involves discussing expected patient balances for upcoming procedures and reviewing patient accounts to ensure clarity and understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Financial Counseling: Assist patients in navigating insurance inquiries and provide comprehensive counseling to clarify their financial responsibilities. Explore payment options that align with patients' needs and assist with account-related questions.
- Inform patients about various payment methods, including budget plans, credit options, and other financial solutions.
- Establish new budget/payment plans tailored to individual patient circumstances.
- Review and process applications for patient hardship.
Pre-Collection Duties:
- Prepare financial estimates for all procedures, communicate financial responsibilities to patients, and collect payments prior to scheduled procedures.
- Notify the practice if pre-collection efforts are unsuccessful.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain confidentiality standards for both medical and financial information.
- Ensure effective communication of patient information while upholding confidentiality.
- Engage with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner to foster a positive environment.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills when interacting with patients and their families.
- Review patient account information and explain it clearly to patients.
- Stay updated on job-related skills through training programs.
- Participate in compliance programs and loss prevention initiatives.
- Adhere to safety requirements and procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
- Follow established standards of business conduct.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in medical office financial counseling, collections, or billing.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in numerical tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, both in person and over the phone.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to hear and communicate effectively, see at various distances, read and comprehend written materials, and perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, walking, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs.
