Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Leadership
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive advisor engagement and retention strategy that aligns with the university's strategic direction.
    • Collaborate with campus partners and advising units to design and deliver high-quality advisor training and development programs.
  • Advisor Support and Development
    • Provide guidance and oversight to advisor training and development programs, ensuring they meet the needs of the academic advising community.
    • Lead the development and implementation of programs to enhance advisor support, engagement, and retention, including exit, stay, and culture surveys.
  • Equity and Inclusion
    • Develop and implement solutions to identify and address equity gaps in advisor retention and advancement.
    • Collaborate with the Office of Equal Opportunity to ensure that advising practices promote a culture of inclusion and equity.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Foster clear and effective communication channels between the Office of Advising and Academic Services and the broader UC advising community.
    • Represent the university at national conferences and engage with national professional associations to stay current on emerging practices and perspectives.
  • Supervision and Leadership
    • Provide direct and indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff, as well as graduate assistants and student staff.
    • Collaborate with advising units and Central Human Resources to develop and implement programs and support resources.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience
    • Five (5) years of experience as an academic advisor, career counselor, human resource specialist, or related function
  • Additional Qualifications
    • Two (2+) years of supervision experience
    • Knowledge and/or Experience in Assessment and Evaluation, Project Management, or Training and Development
    • Knowledge and/or expertise in the areas of Student Success or Retention
