Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Library Technical Assistant to join our team at the Town of Greenwich, CT. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a critical role in supporting the acquisition, preparation, and organization of library materials, as well as providing exceptional customer service to our patrons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the acquisition, preparation, and organization of library materials, including books, periodicals, and other media.
  • Use various computer systems and software programs to place orders for library materials and electronic information services.
  • Locate and catalog library materials, and prepare them for loan.
  • Support various reference services, including assisting patrons with finding information and materials.
  • Supervise and assist in the circulation of library materials, and interpret rules and procedures for circulation to staff and patrons.
  • Contribute to the goals and processes of the assigned team, and may be responsible for a specific area of the collection.
  • Perform general upkeep and troubleshooting of computers and peripherals, and compile statistics for this function.
  • Assist with a variety of computer operations, and may oversee data-entry and work with specific software programs.
Requirements
  • Two years of college-level courses in library science, computer science, or a related field, plus at least two years of full-time experience as a Library Clerk in a library with heavy computer utilization.
  • Or, a Bachelor's Degree plus one year of related experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of library computer databases, equipment, and library programs.
  • Knowledge of library clerical and statistical routines.
  • Working knowledge of library principles, methods, and techniques, and the ability to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of books and other media, or a specific area of service, including library reference materials, music, video, etc.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot a wide variety of computer equipment, audio-visual equipment, and office equipment related to library functions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to supervise subordinates.
  • Ability to work with other staff and the public in a team environment.
Working Conditions

The Library Technical Assistant will work in a fast-paced library environment, with frequent interaction with patrons and staff. The position requires flexibility and may involve working evenings and weekends.
