About the Project:

ALPA Construction is excited to spearhead the design and construction management of a state-of-the-art practice facility for the Chicago Sky (WNBA) in Bedford Park, IL. This $38 million, 130,000 square foot facility includes over 40,000 square feet of exclusive, cutting-edge space for the Chicago Sky players and staff. In collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders, we are delivering a project that not only meets the highest standards but also champions the advancement of women in sports.

Role Overview:

ALPA Construction is in search of a skilled and driven Project Engineer to become a vital part of our Chicago operations. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about contributing to impactful projects that benefit the community, such as the Chicago Sky Practice Facility. As an essential team member, you will collaborate closely with senior project managers and assistant project managers to ensure the successful execution of this landmark project.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Submittal Review Expertise: Lead the evaluation and processing of submittals, ensuring that all materials, equipment, and workmanship comply with project specifications and high-quality standards. This includes the creation and management of a comprehensive submittal log and procurement log. You will be responsible for ensuring that all technical data, material samples, and product specifications are thoroughly reviewed and that accurate information is maintained. Additionally, you will oversee the timely submission of all items to keep the project on schedule.
  2. Project Oversight: Uphold rigorous quality standards and ensure timely project completion through effective oversight and coordination.
  3. Schedule & Documentation Management: Coordinate and meticulously manage project schedules, meetings, and documentation to keep the project on track.
  4. Change Orders & Documentation: Oversee change orders, building permits, submittals, and other critical project documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  5. Site Inspections: Conduct thorough on-site inspections to monitor progress and ensure adherence to project standards.
  6. Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the construction phase, managing contractor interactions and ensuring all contract terms are fulfilled.
  7. Project Strategy Implementation: Balance self-performance and outsourcing to meet project cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
  8. Support in Problem-Solving: Assist the Senior Project Engineer in problem-solving and technical decision-making, providing essential support in addressing challenges and ensuring optimal project outcomes.
  9. Subcontractor Meetings: Schedule and organize meetings with subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and coordination among all parties involved in the project.
  10. Meeting Minutes Management: Create, maintain, and distribute minutes for all office-based meetings. This includes accurately documenting discussions, decisions, and action items, and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed in a timely manner.
  11. Technology Proficiency: Utilize construction management platforms to enhance project efficiency.
  12. Project Closeout: Play a crucial role in project establishment and closeout, ensuring all processes are completed smoothly and effectively.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  2. EIT certification, working towards PE license.
  3. 3-5 years of experience in construction engineering, preferably with exposure to public projects.
  4. Proficiency in construction management software and basic engineering analysis tools.
  5. Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and engineering principles.
  6. Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
