Position Overview

Under the direct guidance of the Manager, this role focuses on developing expertise in complex engineering projects and assignments. The position supports power system analyses, enhances and maintains advanced applications, and acts as a liaison and tester in the design, engineering, and evaluation of market software, including Real-Time and Day-Ahead Market Applications, as well as network applications such as State Estimator (SE) and Real-Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts functional and regression testing of existing applications and newly added features within the Day-Ahead/Real-time Market, Market Quality Solutions, and Transmission Network Applications.
  • Provides operational support, including occasional in-person assistance, for day-ahead, hour-ahead, and real-time operations.
  • Identifies and resolves engineering-related challenges, maintaining the integrity of current applications and analyzing system errors to determine root causes.
  • Collaborates with team members to define functional requirements for Market Operations and advanced Network Applications.
  • Integrates, enhances, and supports various market applications related to operations.
  • Participates in designing, testing, and documenting user training as necessary.
  • Available for 24/7 on-call support as part of a team rotation.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • This is an entry-level position; no prior experience is necessary.
Certifications:
  • FE exam or EIT certification is preferred.
Relevant Experience:
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is required:
    • Power Systems
    • Power Systems Operations
    • Energy Management Systems (EMS)
    • Advanced network applications
    • Real-time systems
    • Market operations
    • Web services
    • SQL
  • Internship or project experience within the Utility Industry is strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Compensation

The pay range for the Junior Power Systems Engineering Specialist is competitive and commensurate with experience.
