Clinical Nutrition Specialist

Position Overview
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive nutritional management of patients. This role involves planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutritional care strategies. The specialist also plays a key role in menu adjustments and other nutrition-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mentor and guide fellow team members in best practices.
2. Execute various clinical tasks with precision and responsiveness, focusing on minimal complexity.
3. Conduct interviews with patients and/or their families to gather nutritional histories, ascertain food preferences, and document findings in medical records.
4. Perform nutritional evaluations, create and implement tailored care plans, and collaborate with medical staff to recommend nutrition strategies.
5. Suggest therapeutic dietary modifications and supplemental feeding options to physicians, ensuring the accuracy of diet orders.
6. Offer nutritional education and counseling to patients and their families, aligning with prescribed dietary guidelines. Calculate nutrient content for tube feedings and dietary intakes as directed by physicians.
7. Contribute to menu modifications based on patient preferences and assist in the development of standardized recipes, while overseeing food service staff to ensure proper food handling and portion control.
8. Support clinical operations by assisting team members and management in daily tasks.
9. Prepare and deliver individual and group educational sessions, referring clients to community resources as necessary. Actively participate in wellness initiatives.
10. Establish effective communication channels regarding nutrition information within the program and the broader community.
11. Provide training sessions for culinary, food service, and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
12. Engage in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and task execution as directed.
13. Address operational challenges and technical issues, escalating to senior team members and management as needed; adapt existing tools or processes as required.
14. Perform additional related duties as necessary. All responsibilities outlined are considered essential functions of the role.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.
Certification as a Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required.
Advanced or specialized certifications may be necessary.
1-3 years of pertinent experience is essential.

Various factors may influence the determination of a team member's base salary, including location, specialty, service line, years of experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget considerations, and internal equity.
