Position Overview

We are in search of a skilled and enthusiastic engineer who can leverage their knowledge to develop cutting-edge technological solutions that align with our mission. At Rivian, we prioritize inventive problem-solving, meticulous attention to detail, and effective collaboration. Success in this role requires experience in the design, development, and upkeep of components and assemblies. Strong communication and organizational skills, along with a fervor for innovative solutions, are essential. This position is based in our Irvine, CA office and reports to the Senior Manager of Component Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist design engineers in selecting appropriate electronic components for their specific applications.
  • Examine the Bill of Materials (BoM) to ensure adherence to application standards (AEC-Q, Electrical/Mechanical attributes, etc.).
  • Oversee the supply chain lifecycle for electronic components (EOL/LTB, PCNs, etc.).
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (Design, Supply Chain, Reliability, etc.).
  • Create internal part numbers within the PLM system (Arena, 3DX Enovia, Agile, etc.).
  • Support the supply chain during clear to build (CTB) reviews by identifying alternative components for known shortages.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with component manufacturers.
  • Contribute to the development of processes and workflows among cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in investigations of PCBA and/or component-level failures.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities for electronic components.
  • Conduct component-level landscape assessments.
  • Engage in cost reduction initiatives for future programs.
  • Demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills with electronic equipment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Component Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Proficient in interpreting electronic component specifications and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with automotive-grade component standards (AEC-Q).
  • Experience utilizing component risk and obsolescence management tools (Silicon Expert, Z2Data, etc.).
  • Proven experience leading failure investigations and familiarity with 8D reporting.
  • Experience with PLM systems (Arena, 3DX Enovia, Agile, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ECAD component libraries (OrCAD, Altium, etc.).
  • Understanding of the EVT, DVT, and PVT stages of the design lifecycle.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with tight development timelines.
  • Demonstrated strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range for Southern California Applicants: $137,800 - $172,200 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Salary Range for Northern California Applicants: $149,700 - $187,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Overview: Rivian offers comprehensive medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance plans for full-time employees, their spouses or domestic partners, and children up to age 26. Coverage begins on the first day of employment, with Rivian covering most of the premiums.
