Overview:

Virgin Galactic is in search of a skilled and driven Safety Assurance Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the responsibilities associated with this role while fulfilling various knowledge and experience criteria. Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate process assurance strategies and standards in compliance with 14 CFR Part 450 regulations and other relevant industry benchmarks.
  • Guarantee that project plans meet the required development assurance levels for aircraft functions, systems, or components.
  • Define and adhere to project communication, coordination, sequencing, and progress monitoring protocols.
  • Collaborate with development teams to adjust and enhance design assurance processes to align with safety program objectives, including conducting audits to verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Establish and enforce change control, operational, and maintenance procedures.
  • Oversee testing activities for Software and Complex Electronic Hardware.
  • Conduct process assurance audits for software and complex electronic hardware design initiatives.
  • Audit configuration management, change management processes, and resolution of problem reports.
  • Engage closely with engineering disciplines and consult with software and complex electronics hardware experts to effectively meet the objectives set forth by regulatory and standards organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the Software and Complex Electronic Hardware development lifecycle (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable).
  • Proven experience in airborne systems development process assurance, with the ability to create necessary plans and standards according to SAE ARP 4754A, SAE ARP 4761, RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254, and other applicable guidelines.
  • Familiarity with RTCA/DO-178C and RTCA/DO-254 standards.
  • Understanding of avionics standards, such as ARINC 429, ARINC 825, ARINC 664.
  • Knowledge of system safety processes and their integration with engineering design and development processes as outlined in SAE ARP 4754A and 4761.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with FAA commercial space regulations is preferred, specifically CFR §400.
  • Project management capabilities.
  • Experience in flight operations within an aerospace context.
  • Background in OEM aircraft manufacturing or overhaul operations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in software applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $85,900.00–$131,000.00. The actual base pay offered will depend on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience, while also considering internal equity. Additional forms of compensation (e.g., bonuses or long-term incentives) may be included as part of the overall package, alongside a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
