Aerospace Loads Engineer

Position Overview:
As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the development and validation of loads criteria for suborbital space missions and other innovative configurations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation for pre-flight activities, including the assessment of test limitations, reviewing flight test plans and procedures, conducting flight readiness evaluations, and providing mission control support during and after flights.
- Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to ensure the accurate application of design and loads specifications.
- Generate airframe and component loads necessary for structural design and qualification, both statically and dynamically.
- Facilitate the transition into commercial operations by ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Create standardized tools for analysis and reporting.
- Update models based on data obtained from vehicle or component testing and analytical methodologies.
- Formulate and validate rational loads criteria and requirements for unique vehicles with unconventional designs.
- Provide technical leadership in loads engineering across the organization.
- Enhance loads standards, processes, and best practices.
- Develop strategic technical roadmaps and concepts related to loads engineering.
- Lead the design or analysis of new products, systems, or processes.
- Guide cross-functional teams to address complex challenges and support team success.
- Manage projects and teams to make informed engineering decisions and recommendations.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet established standards and commitments.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and team members.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 14 years of experience in external loads engineering with a B.S. in engineering, or 12 years with an M.S., or 9 years with a Ph.D.
- Proven experience in in-flight test aerodynamic and loads model validation and correlation.
- Extensive knowledge of aircraft and spacecraft systems.
- Familiarity with flight dynamics and 6DOF trajectory simulation.
- Understanding of relevant aerospace standards and structural design criteria (FAA, FAA-AST, NASA, MilSpec, etc.).
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C, C++, FORTRAN, and Simulink, including best practices in software development.
- Experience with CATIA V5 and NASTRAN.
- Ability to advise senior management on complex, multifaceted technological aspects impacting the organization.
- Strong teamwork capabilities and excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Establish robust relationships with key stakeholders to foster collaboration.
Preferred Experience:
- Background in test planning, including flight and ground testing, writing test plans, selecting instrumentation, and data verification.
- Experience with comprehensive aircraft analysis, including transonic and supersonic test execution, along with familiarity with standard flight test practices and safety protocols.
