Position Overview:

The Electrical Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for the electrical design of machinery controls tailored for both standard and bespoke packaging systems. This role involves programming, integration, and communication with various devices including PCs, PLCs, HMIs, and servo systems.

As part of the Packaging, Machinery, and Automation (PM&A) Team, you will contribute to the advancement of equipment through the application of innovative technologies and superior controls design methodologies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement electrical control systems to meet client packaging requirements.
  • Ensure precision in calculations related to electrical and pneumatic systems for automation design.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive electrical bills of materials, ensuring structured documentation for purchasing and production.
  • Conduct research on electrical components to ensure proper sizing and selection for various applications.
  • Create detailed electrical layout drawings, control cabinet schematics, and pneumatic diagrams using AutoCAD 2D for production and client reference.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing costs and enhancing the quality of electrical designs.
  • Interpret and understand client electrical specifications and requirements for their packaging operations.
  • Collaborate with technical writers to produce machine documentation.
  • Provide programming support for standard equipment enhancements and custom machinery.
  • Engage in the start-up and commissioning processes of machinery.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience. A minimum of three years of experience in electrical controls and programming is required.

Preferred Experience Includes:

  • Electrical design for industrial automation machinery using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • High voltage three-phase and single-phase schematics.
  • Control system design with Allen-Bradley components.
  • Creation of I/O layout diagrams, electrical panel layouts, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Development of complete electrical bills of materials.
  • Experience with structured programming and configuration of industrial automation using Rockwell Automation products.
  • Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 79 standards.
