Overview:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, coordinating, and executing electrical and automation projects. This role involves leading electrical upgrades and new installations while providing technical support to facilities both remotely and onsite. The engineer will identify automation opportunities, including robotics and data collection, to enhance efficiency, safety, and energy savings. It is essential to ensure that all automated systems fulfill the required functions and production demands.

Collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Tool Operation, Plant Services, Plant Maintenance, and Production teams is crucial to define, develop, and implement new and refurbished systems.


Key Responsibilities:


The responsibilities of this position encompass, but are not limited to: Collaborating with Production and Engineering teams to ensure all work aligns with stakeholder requirements Designing electrical enclosures, sub-panel layouts, and wiring diagrams in compliance with UL/CUL/CSA certifications and NFPA79 wiring standards Working with project initiators to accurately define the scope of work and capture the sequence of operations Maintaining up-to-date software, programs, drawings, and files Developing electrical panel designs and conducting design reviews with the team Coordinating with various Operations teams to schedule and install equipment and upgrades Writing PLC, HMI, Drive, and other related programs for assigned projects Providing training on Controls that is easily comprehensible for production operators and plant maintenance staff Creating necessary bills of materials Traveling within the US and Canada, with anticipated travel requirements of 30-35% Offering local and remote support to plants Assisting in acceptance testing and troubleshooting of equipment from OEMs Conducting necessary machine and panel acceptance testing based on the defined scope of work.

Required Skills:

This position requires the following skills and knowledge: Strong organizational, analytical, and systematic problem-solving abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Teams, OneNote, Office, Excel, Outlook) Effective communication skills across all organizational levels Experience in a manufacturing environment Self-motivated with a proven history of delivering projects on time and within budget Familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards Ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines within teams and projects Experience in troubleshooting electrical components, AC/DC motors/drives, and PLCs Proficiency in modifying and creating PLC and HMI programs for various manufacturers including Automation Direct, Siemens, and Allen-Bradley Capability to read and create electrical diagrams and panel layouts using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical Familiarity with: Allen Bradley (RSLogix 5, 500 & Studio 5000), Siemens (Step 7, ProTool, WinCC Software), Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk View, Yaskawa and Allen Bradley Variable Frequency Drives, B&R Automation Studio, Fanuc Robotics, Allen-Bradley Kinetix Drives and Servo Motion, Automation Direct - DirectSoft 5 & C-

Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to walk and crawl around equipment as necessary Kneeling or sitting in front of electrical panels to terminate control wiring Lifting up to 25 lbs. as required Standing for extended periods on concrete flooring in a production environment Willingness to travel up to 35%.
